Lone Tree Llanberis
Lone Tree Llanberis is a striking natural landmark situated near the shores of Llyn Padarn in Snowdonia National Park, Wales. This iconic tree, set against the backdrop of the majestic mountains, offers a picturesque scene that attracts photographers year-round.
Photographers can capture stunning reflections of the tree in the lake, especially during calm weather. The best light occurs during sunrise and sunset, casting warm hues over the landscape. Autumn is particularly enchanting, as the surrounding foliage transforms into vibrant colours, adding depth to the composition.
Photography notes:
- Arrive early to secure a good spot for sunrise shots.
- Consider using a polarising filter to enhance the colours and reduce glare from the water.
- Explore different angles to include the surrounding mountains for a more dynamic composition.

Most visitors arrive at Lone Tree Llanberis by car, taking advantage of the scenic routes through Snowdonia National Park. The location is popular with both tourists and photographers, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon when the lighting is most favourable.
Parking:
- The nearest parking option is the Llyn Padarn Car Park, located approximately 200 meters from the Lone Tree. It offers a 10 minute walk along a well-maintained, flat path that leads directly to the lakeside.
- Alternatively, you may find roadside parking along the A4086, but be mindful of not obstructing traffic and ensure you park legally.
Access:
- The path from the car park to the tree is mostly tarmacked, making it accessible for photographers carrying camera equipment. However, be prepared for some sections that may be muddy or uneven, especially after rain.
- There are no gates or stiles along the route, but the area is Open Access land, meaning you can move freely around the vicinity of the tree. However, please respect any signs regarding private land or restricted areas nearby.
- Practical tips for photographers include arriving well before sunrise to secure an ideal spot, particularly on weekends when it can get busy. In winter months, be cautious of icy conditions on the path. The use of a polarising filter is advisable to enhance colours and mitigate reflections from the water, especially during golden hour. Keep an eye out for changing weather conditions, as they can dramatically alter your photography opportunities.
