Parking:

  • The nearest parking option is the Low Force car park, located approximately 0.5 miles from the waterfall. The car park provides a good base for exploring the area and is usually well-maintained. The walk from the car park to the waterfall takes about 10-15 minutes along a well-trodden path.
  • Alternatively, there is roadside parking available along the minor roads leading to the area, but this can be limited and may require a short walk of 10-20 minutes depending on where you find a space.

Access:

  • The path from the car park to Low Force is generally gravelled and well-defined, but can become muddy after rain. Photographers should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for uneven terrain in some sections. There are no gates or stiles along the main route, making access relatively straightforward.
  • As part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the area is classified as Open Access land, allowing for free movement, although it’s advisable to stick to established paths for safety and to protect the environment.
  • Photographers should consider visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon for optimal lighting conditions. Be mindful of the weather, as the area can be busy during weekends and holidays, especially in autumn when foliage colours are at their peak.
